The Galloping Grandma is off on another Adventure - this time to the Galapagos Islands (on the Equator off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean) and the Amazon Rain Forest!! A 20-day holiday incorporating a 2-week cruise around the 'Enchanted Isles' in an elegant two-masted Topsail Schooner (without ever having to lift a finger in the Galley!), a visit to Antisana (all that snow and no skis!), plus a 4-day extension to the Amazon Jungle....... me and spiders?????

Friday 10 Feb 2012.
Weighed anchor at 5am and motored to the other end of San Cristobal Island at Cerro Brujo. After breakfast we went ashore and walked along a fine sandy beach and saw about 10 or 12 fresh turtle nests (probably laid that night) above the high-water line. Also saw lots of ghost and sally lightfoot crabs. On the way back to the port we passed Kicking Rock. In the afternoon we went ashore to visit El Junco Lagoon (the only fresh-water lake in the Galapagos). We saw frigate birds fishing and cruising overhead. While walking round the rim of the crater a ladybird with NO spots landed on my arm. Also visited the Tortoise breeding centre at Jacinto Gordillo – from the panga we could see sea-lions festooning the boats (on the tail gate, on the sides, all over!). Darwin said they have been known to capsize boats if they all lay on one side, just by sheer weight.
